Description
Summary: Performs engineering work relative to product applications, product improvements and technical service to sales personnel and customers. Responsible for automating the information in the business unit and converting to useful sales support tools to improve our service to our customers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Provides advice and technical information to customers and salesmen in matters pertaining to sealing device applications. Assists customers with achieving satisfactory product performance. Visits customers’ facilities as required. Assist with new product development by providing insight into product performance, and feedback regarding customer needs. Assist with the in-house technical training of Garlock and distributor personnel. Analyzes field samples, determine root cause of failure and reports back to initiator of request with possible solution(s) for their application.

NOTE: Applications Engineering is a fast-paced environment, and requires the engineer to multi-task; handle numerous projects, answer customer calls and participate in team related activities. Applicants should be aware that the average training time required before being able to confidently handle any application related question is approximately 2-3 years.

Requirements
BSME or BS Engineering Technology. Five plus years experience in applications or product engineering and engineering procedures. Strong interpersonal skills with field sales engineering savvy. Must have strong computer skills in MSOffice; Visual Basic a plus. Must be able to work in high-paced, multi-task environment. Individual needs to be a self-starter and have strong attention to detail. Must have excellent organizational and communication skills.

Continually evaluates competitive conditions, technical advances, and market potentials. Recommends product design changes, short and long term product developments.
• In conjunction with other departments, develops sources for product not produced internally to expand product line. Transmits new product into aggressive sales programs. Develops content for product information and plans training programs.

Description
Leads and coordinates all activities of the Tool Engineering & Design team to insure efficient and economic development of new tools, dies, and molds.

Requirements

• Complete tool, die, or mold drawings for manufacturing from product drawings or design concepts to the on-site tool room or vendors. Work with cross-functional teams (operations, engineering, R&D) to develop tooling for new and innovative product designs.
• Follow designs through manufacture, test, and production to ensure they are performing as intended. Provide support to the Tool Room and vendors by providing assistance on design, tolerances, and other aspects as needed to manufacture tools, dies, molds, etc..
• Maintain, track, and communicate the status of projects and designs assigned to the Tool Engineering and Design Team.
• Support Operations and Engineering by reviewing, recommending, and troubleshooting potential tooling issues related to production and engineering trials.
• Coordinate, monitor, and direct the daily activities and projects assigned to the Tool Engineering and Design team. Establish goals for the Tool Engineer and Designer and track performance to goals.
• Establish and document design standards for existing and new tools, dies and molds and ensure that these standards are followed. Ensure designs are state-of-the-art in terms of efficiency, performance, manufacturability and cost effectiveness.
• Participates in the development of plans and programs for improving the Tool Room operations, and for short and long term projects aimed at achieving maximum efficiency and service.
• Designates type of material, heat treat process, post processes such as plating, anodizing, etc. to be used on tooling including but not, restricted to, molds, dies, fixtures and gages during design and manufacturing of those tools.
• Effectively interact with all levels of personnel, including operators, engineers and managers.
• Monitor repairs to existing tooling, dies, and molds and identify and implement improvements to reduce repair costs.
• Collaborate with and assist other Garlock facilities to develop mold, tool and die design standards for their operation.
